A SOLO EXHIBITION BY SOPHIA DOBREVA - NOLITA
After its success in Manchester, Bluebirds is now going to ONE Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria. The exhibition will feature part of the original selection of works and some new pieces created towards the end of 2023.
Bluebirds explores the realms of the subconsciousness, loneliness, and belonging. In it Sophia experiments with the concept of letting go of personal demons and exploring, comprehending, and accepting them during the creative process. Their translation onto the canvas serves as a peace sign and leads to a catharsis of sorts. However, is peace achievable and how long can it endure?
Bluebirds is a visual voyage through the deep blue of the human subconscious. The artist explores her personal prejudices and concerns as a long-term migrant, asking questions about the ingrained notions of gender, ethnicity, and origin.
The opening of Bluebirds is on the 5th March from 19.00 when you will get a chance to meet and discuss with the artist.
Bluebirds will be on display in Bulgaria for the first time from 5 March till 17 March 2024.
One Gallery is located in the heart of Bulgaria's capital, Sofia on Dyakon Ignatiy St 1, right next to the National Theater.

A SOLO EXHIBITION BY SOPHIA DOBREVA - NOLITA
Bluebirds is the first solo exhibition of paintings by Sophia Dobreva - Nolita, inspired by the themes of spirituality, solitude and belonging.
As a chronic traveller through cities and countries, Sophia captures fragments of dreams, fears and everyday anxiety, while facing the question of one’s place in the world. Created in a period of relative isolation, the works toy with the idea of unleashing one’s ‘demons’ and embracing their destructive power, of immersing fully in the deep blue of the unconciousness.
Spoken word and contemporary dance artists will perform on the launch night - 2 February 2023 at 7 pm.
Bluebirds will be on display from 2 February till 30 March 2023.
